Preliminary Information
Chhattisgarh state came into existence separately on 1 November 2000.
Chhattisgarh State: After Gaurela-Pedra-Marwahi district came into existence on 10 February 2020, the number of districts in Chhattisgarh has now increased to 28. The remaining 27 districts are as follows:-
Raipur, Dhamtari, Balodabazar, Gariaband, Bemetara, Balod, Mungeli, Surajpur, Balrampur, Sukma, Kondagaon Mahasamund, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Kawardha, Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Janjgir-
Champa, Korba, Jashpur, Ambikapur and Korea. . In the month of April 2007, Bijapur was formed by separating it from Jagdalpur and Narayanpur and Dantewada.Similarly, 9 new districts were formed in the month of January 2012. In this, Bastar, Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma, Surajpur, Balrampur, Kondagaon, Kanker, Surguja, Korea, Korba and Jashpur completely come under the tribal sub-plan area., On 17 April 2022, 5 more new districts were created in Chhattisgarh, namely Mohla Manpur Chowki, Sakti, Sarangarh, Manendragarh – Chirimiri – Bharatpur and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai. Now in this way the total number of districts (28+5) in Chhattisgarh has increased to 33. There are a total of 146 development blocks in the state, out of which the number of tribal development blocks is 85.There are 11 Lok Sabha (5 General, 4 Scheduled Tribe, 2 Scheduled Caste) constituencies in the state of Chhattisgarh, and 90 assembly constituencies. 44 constituencies (34 Scheduled Tribes and 10 Scheduled Castes) are reserved in the assembly constituencies.The total population of the state (as per census year 2011) is 255.45 lakh. Of these, the population of Scheduled Tribes is 78.22 lakh, and the population of Scheduled Castes is 32.47 lakh.The concept of Tribal Sub-Plan for the development of Scheduled Tribes is continuing in the state. The main tribes are Gond and its sub-castes - Madiya, Muria, Dorla etc. Apart from this, Oraon, Kanwar, Binjhwar, Baiga, Bhatra, Kamar, Halba, Sanwara, Nagesia, Majhwar, Kharia and Dhanwar tribes are present in large numbers.
There are 5 special backward tribes, Baiga, Kamar, Hill Korba, Birhor, Abujhmadia, living in the state of Chhattisgarh. For these, 6 especially vulnerable tribal development agencies and 9 cells have been formed for the implementation of overall development programs.
Apart from this, Pando Development Agency in Surajpur and Bhunjia Development Agency in Gariaband have been formed to implement the overall development program of two particularly vulnerable tribes, Pando and Bhunjia, declared by the state government.
